Getting started to pack and move IT equipment

First things first, there are certain measures of precaution you have to take before you even box the electronics up. There are safety issues you have to take care of. For instance, all long-distance movers in Maryland will have you remove the batteries out of all electronic devices. They have a tendency to overheat and leak, which can cause an explosion. Also as a safety measure, you should remove all the cartridges from your printers, and secure them in separate bags.

Labeling the electronics will help you immensely when unpacking

Imagine this: your movers Annapolis leave, having dropped off all boxes at your new home. You are left on your own to unpack and the first box you open is filled with tangled cables. This situation can absolutely ruin your day and drown your excitement about settling into your dream home. A simple, yet effective idea is the following:

  • Purchase some colorful tape and white stickers.
  • When unplugging your tech, label the device with the tape and wrap a piece of the same colored tape to its charger/cable.
  • Do this with each cable (if the device has multiple).
  • When you are finished, put all the cables in one see-through bag, placing a white sticker on it and write the name of the device they belong to.

In case you threw them away, try to find boxes of similar sizes. Make sure you use bubble wrap and tape the boxes shut completely. Sure, it will be a hassle to unpack those boxes, but at least they will arrive safe and sound.

Last but not least – back everything up!
